Rooted in faith and compassion, we empower women, protect children, and uplift entire communities across El Salvador.
To provide faith-based, trauma-informed care and empowerment to mothers and families in underserved communities in El Salvador.
A world where every mother is valued, every child is protected, and every community thrives in faith, unity, and dignity.
Through faith-driven programs and community partnerships, Moms for El Salvador has touched hundreds of lives—providing emotional support, protection, and education to women and children in El Salvador.
El Salvador faces numerous challenges that significantly impact its women, families, and children. This report highlights the key issues affecting this demographic while also examining the strengths and weaknesses inherent in the social, economic, and political landscape of the country.
Strengths: El Salvador has seen community initiatives that bring together families and neighborhoods to combat crime.
Weakness: The country has some of the highest homicide rates in the world, heavily impacting women and children who are often victims of domestic and gang-related violence. This environment leads to fear, restricts mobility, and disrupts community structures.
Strengths: There are local programs aimed at promoting entrepreneurship among women, fostering self-sufficiency.
Weakness: A significant portion of the population lives in poverty, with women and children disproportionately affected. Economic inequalities limit access to education, healthcare, and essential services.
Strengths: The government has made efforts to improve access to education through
public programs.
Weakness: Despite improvements, access to quality education remains uneven, particularly for girls in rural areas. Cultural beliefs may prioritize male education over female, resulting in lower literacy rates for women and girls.
Strengths: Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) are actively working to provide healthcare services, including health education.
Weakness: Limited access to comprehensive healthcare, including maternal and health services, poses significant risks. Maternal Services can endanger women’s lives and health, leading to distrust in healthcare systems.
Strengths: El Salvador is part
of various international agreements aimed at protecting children’s rights.
Weakness: Child labor and trafficking remain critical issues, driven by poverty and lack of opportunities. Children from disadvantaged backgrounds often become vulnerable to exploitation.
Strengths: The Salvadoran diaspora provides economic support for families through remittances, augmenting household incomes.
Weakness: The high rates of migration reflect the lack of opportunities and safety at home, forcing families apart and leading to emotional and economic challenges for children left behind.
Strengths: Women’s rights organizations are increasingly advocating for equality and social justice.
Weakness: Gender-based violence remains pervasive, often silencing women’s voices and limiting their participation in social and political life.
El Salvador’s women, families, and children face multifaceted challenges linked to violence, economic instability, limited access to education and healthcare, and social inequality. While there are strengths in community initiatives and advocacy efforts, the persistent minuses require concerted national and international action.
